We are at a unique place in obesity care history where anti-obesity medications (AOMs) are showing promising, clinically significant weight loss for persons with obesity. As medications become more available to this patient population, specific tactics must be designed to support patients for long-term weight management by integrating support tools to manage nutrition, physical activity, and behavior. As more providers become interested and skilled at working with patients with obesity, they will need to consider their approaches toward designing interdisciplinary teams to support these pillars of clinical obesity treatment. Utilizing 16 years of experience in the surgical weight loss community and direct oversight of a large volume MBSAQIP-Accredited Center, Dr. Nina Crowley, a registered dietitian, health psychologist, and former surgical program coordinator, will share the latest evidence and best practices for integrating healthcare professionals on the obesity management team. Disciplines that support nutrition, behavior, and physical activity in obesity medicine practices serve to achieve optimal results for patients while reducing burnout for providers.
Learning Objectives:
Identify opportunities for integration of interdisciplinary team members to support the nutrition, physical activity, and behavioral components of a comprehensive obesity medicine program
Illustrate the value of optimizing the use of specialized healthcare professionals in an obesity medicine program to improve patient outcomes
Design the optimal team and services to maximize support for patients and providers, while minimize system challenges creating long term sustainability and satisfaction
