Dr O'Hara is a native of Aroostook County, Maine. After getting her undergraduate degree at the University of New England, she got her D.O. at The University of New England, College of Osteopathic Medicine. She did her pediatric training at the Barbara Bush Children's Hospital, Maine Medical Center, Portland Maine. She became board certified by the American Board of Pediatrics and practiced general pediatrics in Aroostook County, Maine for 10 years. Then she focused full-time on childhood obesity management and founded the WOW Program, Pediatric Weight Management Clinic at Northern Light Eastern Maine Medical Center, Bangor, Maine. She became one of the first pediatricians to become a Diplomate of the American Board of Obesity Medicine in 2013. She has been active teaching medical students and residents at Northern Lights Eastern Maine Medical Center and at the University of New England College of Medicine. She has educated about the disease of obesity and advocated for children with obesity and their families through involvement with th Maine Youth Obesity Collaborative, the Maine Public Health Obesity Policy Board, the Let's Go Initiative, the Maine Provider Advisory Board, the Clinical Advisory Board of the Maine CDC, the executive committee of the Maine Chapter of the AAP, the pediatric committee of the OMA, the Pediatric Algorithm Writing Group of the OMA, the Section on Obesity of the AAP, and the pediatric committee of The Obesity Society. She has done clinical research locally and with the POWER Outcome Group. In 2015 she pioneered telemedicine techniques to deliver pediatric weight management to children with obesity and their families throughout the state of Maine. Since 2013 she has been a regular attendee of the Blackburn Obesity Course at Harvard University. Currently she is Medical Director of WOW 4 Wellness Clinic, Penobscot Valley Health Center, Bangor Maine.
